In case you didn’t know, Blacktail Health is celebrating 40 years of serving as Southwest Montana’s Community Health Center.
In March 1986, Butte-Silver Bow Primary Health Care Clinic opened a health clinic at the Butte Community Center on W. Front Street with a $750,000 federal grant for three years. Eight months later, the organization moved into 401 S. Alabama and officially became an independent business and Federally Qualified Health Center.
Over the years, we’ve operated under many names, including Community Health Center, Southwest Montana Community Health Center, and, starting this year, Blacktail Health.
What started as a small clinic to serve the high number of unemployed people in the Butte area is now a robust health care center serving everyone, including those covered by Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance, as well as those without insurance or with limited coverage. And because we are a Federally Qualified Health Center, we offer a sliding fee scale and won’t turn anyone away because of inability to pay.
We are proud to serve nearly 13,000 patients a year in Butte, Anaconda, and Dillon, providing patient-centered, integrated medical, dental, care management, and behavioral healthcare. We even operate two retail pharmacies and offer medication packaging, mobile health, and school-based services, bringing healthcare directly to where it is needed most.
Even though we’ve grown, moved, expanded, and changed our name, we are still the same independent nonprofit local health center that has been serving Southwest Montana for decades, known for providing exceptional wraparound care and a convenient ‘one-stop’ healthcare experience.
